Best Laptops with Numeric Keypad in 2022 [Expert Picks]

Best Laptops with Numeric Keypad in 2022 [Expert Picks]

There are numerous reasons to have a number pad on a laptop, whether you need it for accounting, data entry, or just to enter calculations with speed and precision. Check out our review of Best laptops with numeric keypads.

Since the advent of personal computers, keypads have been present on computer keyboards. Over the past few years, getting a great laptop with a full-size keyboard and keypad has become more diffiMany laptop users get by with just a few rows to input the occasional telephone number, date, or password. In order to increase their sales, laptop manufacturers offer popular features such as excellent portability and small size.

Those who rely on the keypad on a daily basis have few options. Even though laptops are getting smaller, you can still find excellent ones with a dedicated number pad. There are quite a few 13-inch models available if you’re looking for something manageable even though they tend to skew towards the bigger end of the form factor spectrum. There are still a few fantastic laptops with numeric keypads available.

In this regard, laptops with numeric keypads are the most preferred for online business and data entry procedures since they allow you to enter numerous numbers at regular intervals. We compiled a list of some of the best laptops in the market with a numeric keypad that you can review to find the best one for you.

What is a Numeric Keypad on a Laptop?

A numeric keypad is also known as a numeric pad, Numpad, or 10-key. There is a 17-key pad usually located on the right side of your laptop’s keyboard. These laptops offer excellent efficiency and allow you to enter numbers at a steady pace.

What is a Numeric Keypad on a Laptop

Pads can also be separate devices and not part of your laptop. They connect to your computer using a USB cable. Additionally, there are older keypads that use a serial connector instead of a USB port.

Numeric keypads even have single-line LCD screens so you can type and calculate easily, like a calculator.

When Would a Numeric Keypad on a Laptop Come in Handy?

Laptops typically come with separate numeric keypads, but some models have numbers hidden in the letter keys. This poses a problem for many people. Therefore, there are several occasions when users might need to use a numeric keyboard on a laptop.

Helps if You Are in a Hurry

In a hurry, you can type a number by holding the numeric key or the ‘Fn’ key. But this is time-consuming and stressful. Typing an equation or a statistic can also result in errors.

In such situations, an integrated numeric keypad can assist you in pressing the right number with easy access.

Eliminates the Issue of Restarting Calculations

Mathematicians do not like having to use the “Fn” key as it is time-consuming and annoying. This makes the typing experience inconvenient and the user spends more time correcting their typing errors.

A keyboard located inside the laptop separately is much more convenient and ensures minimal mistakes.

Great for Gamers

Gamers can also benefit from a numeric keypad. Using the number keypad, they are able to play the game efficiently and more easily. Other professionals such as illustrators, coders, writers, and even developers also find the numeric keypad useful for their work.

Top 17 Best Laptops with Numeric Keypad

1) Toshiba Tecra A50-E

Toshiba Tecra A50-E
View at Amazon

Most business laptops can’t read optical discs, but the 15-inch Toshiba Tecra A50 has an optical drive for those who need it. In addition to its legacy support, this $813 system offers solid Core i5 performance, a comfortable keyboard, and above-average battery life.

Tecra A50’s dim display and lack of durability testing hold it back.

Toshiba’s black plastic Tecra A50 has a textured lid and deck that add a bit of style, but the glossy sides make it feel less than premium. This is one of the few laptops with a removable battery, a feature we always enjoy finding.

The Tecra A50 has a dim display that does not render colors well. An 11-inch laptop may be able to get by with a 1368 x 768 display, but when you put a low-resolution panel on a 15.6-inch screen, visual flaws like digital artefacts are magnified.

Latitude E5570 and ThinkPad T460 also start with low-resolution displays, but both can be configured with 1080p screens, while the A50 cannot.

Thanks to the Tecra A50’s Ethernet port, optical drive, and HD and SD video outputs, users will have no trouble connecting this laptop to the hardware in practically any office.

Toshiba placed two USB 3.0 ports, an Ethernet jack, a DVD SuperMulti Drive, a metallic, reinforced security lock slot, and a headphone jack on the left side of the Tecra A50. On the right side of the notebook, there are two more USB 3.0 ports and an SD memory reader.

The system’s fingerprint reader is located below the touch pad.

Business notebooks are built to withstand challenging conditions. Toshiba’s laptop, unlike the ThinkPad T460 and Latitude E5470, was not tested against MIL-SPEC durability standards for extreme temperatures, shocks, and vibrations.

Nevertheless, the spill-resistant keyboard can protect the laptop from a little water. Toshiba says the Tecra A50’s metallic, reinforced slot can withstand 55 pounds of force. That means the lock is actually stronger than the rest of the laptop.

To protect the hard drive, the Tecra A50’s vibration-protection software will stop the spindle and send an alert every time the notebook is moved. However, these notifications are not necessary.

Tecra A50 has the TPM encryption that many corporate IT departments want, but lacks the Intel vPro management. You can add a biometric layer of security to the laptop using the fingerprint reader.

Toshiba surprised everyone by giving the Tecra A50 a keyboard that is quite efficient. Toshiba notebooks in the past have had tiny keys, 10 x 10 millimetres in size, which can make typing difficult.

However, the Tecra A50’s backlit keys allow you to touch type with precision and effectiveness.

Acupoint’s blue nub on the Tecra A50 is gritty and has a concave design, making it easier to push than the pit-like pointing stick on the A50. If you prefer a less bristly trackpoint, you can choose the Latitude E5570’s pointing stick or the ThinkPad T460’s TrackPoint.

With its 500GB hard drive, 8GB RAM, and Core i5-6200U processor, it offers solid performance for dual-tasking. Current users need reliable and zippy solid-state drives (SSDs), but the A50 only comes with a 7,200-rpm hard drive.

With integrated Intel HD 520 graphics, the Toshiba Tecra A50 can only play casual titles, such as Asphalt 8: Airborne.

Toshiba Tecra A50 does not emit heat, it becomes only warm, which is not a problem. If we look at the normal threshold, the machine has an underside of 95 degrees.

Battery life of the laptop is longer when it is charged when compared to the 15.6-inch model. It lasts about 6 hours, including web browsing over WiFi.

  • Good battery life
  • Solid performance
  • Optical drive
  • Average audio sound
  • Plastic chassis
  • Not MIL-SPEC tested

This year, ASUS has released many great models, and the G17 is one of them. Thanks to its powerful CPU/GPU combination, 17-inch screen, and illuminated keyboard, it quickly became a popular pick for gamers and power users.

It is not surprising that the G17 has an IPS panel with a high refresh rate since this is a gaming laptop. There is no visible tearing or ghosting on the 17-inch 300Hz panel.

With a response time of just 3ms, input lag is almost nonexistent. Considering this is an enthusiast-level laptop, the full HD resolution is a controversial choice.  While the RTX 3070 may not be as powerful as the RTX 3080, it’s important to keep in mind that you will be running games in 1080P.

It will easily run all the latest AAA games at maximum settings at 1080P in the upcoming years.

This GPU has 8 GB of GDDR6 memory, so it has plenty of room for high-resolution textures. ROG Boost will automatically overclock your GPU, giving you about a 10% performance boost.

3) Lenovo Legion 5

Lenovo Legion 5
View at Amazon

In case you are still looking for an AMD-based laptop with a numeric keypad without sacrificing performance, the Lenovo Legion 5 is one of the better options.

Lenovo ditches Intel processors for the powerful AMD Ryzen 7 4800H chipset, which is SMT-compatible. The CPU can boost clock speeds up to 4.2GHz, but the higher TDP levels might be a deal-breaker for users in hotter environments. The GeForce GTX 1660 Ti GPU and 6GB VRAM of the device facilitate selective rendering and GPU-accelerated tasks on the device.

Lenovo offers a 16GB RAM module that can process data and disk caches at 3200MHz. When it comes to storage, the 512GB SSD module shines, allowing you to install Windows 10 Home edition and some of the most demanding applications in no time.

With a display-based clarity and an advanced processing conglomerate, the Legion 5 is also bolstered with a backlit TrueStrike keyboard. Although the keyboard has a fully functional numeric keypad, it is best known for its excellent travel, actuation, and hair-trigger response. It also features a smooth touchpad, powerful speakers, and Cold Front cooling technology.

Lenovo’s Legion 5 works more like a professional resource, thanks to Dual Burn compatibility, despite being a sub $1000 notebook. Utilizes the Zen 2 CPU cores and the GPU CUDA cores for improved performance. Lenovo Legion 5 maintains its manageable weight of 5.41 pounds, thanks to its Coldfront 2.0 and advanced thermal hardware.

Regarding port management, you get access to four Gen 1 slots, HDMI, and Ethernet outputs. Despite this, it is the Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 6 support that allows you to be more productive, especially when it comes to connectivity. Additionally, Lenovo includes a pretty resourceful battery module, capable of lasting up to 9 hours on standard usage.

Overall, the Legion 5 from Lenovo is one of the better laptops with a numeric keypad if you’re more interested in raw processing power and an innovative thermal design.

4) HP Pavilion 2-in-1 15.6″

New HP Pavilion 2-in-1 15.6
View at Amazon

The new HP Pavilion 15 is a great all-rounder with high performance. The price/performance ratio is excellent. Although the overall build is not as premium as thought, you will still find strong hardware for gaming on a low budget.

Many peripheral devices can be connected to the Pavilion’s ports on all sides. The right side has a power port, an Ethernet jack, a HDMI port, and a USB 3.0 port. The left side has a SD card slot and a USB 2.0 port.

There is insufficient brightness on the 15.6-inch, 1366 x 768 display as turning to maximum brightness does not improve the display. It is hard to view the screen from a 45-degree angle due to the reflective screen.

In this case, it makes it difficult to use it as a laptop or tablet touch screen.

The best way to describe the Pavilion keyboard is that it has a numeric keypad, making it easy to calculate and do accounting. The keyboard makes typing easy, and you can reach a maximum speed of 110 words per minute as I did.

Bang & Olufsen and HP collaborated to fit strong speakers into the Pavilion. According to me, the speakers are powerful enough to cover a mid-sized room and you can set the default music setting to provide good sound.

The Pavilion comes with a 512 PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, 8GB RAM, and an Intel Core i5-8265U processor up to 3.9 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology. Multitasking is made easier by these features.

As with other machines, you may experience a lag when you open more than 30 tabs, but this is not a problem. The Pavillion also offers a high transfer rate. It was able to transfer 5GB of files in less than a minute. According to the Laptop Mag Battery test, the pavilion’s battery life can last up to 10 hours. W-Fi surfing was included in the test. An average battery life of 10 hours was achieved.

  • Low overall operating temperatures
  • Ual-storage configuration is uncommon for this size of a notebook
  • Backlit keyboard
  • Conventional HDD with average performance

Acer Predator Helios 300
View at Amazon

The Helios 300 is an affordable high-end pick. It is equipped with an 11th generation Intel chip, the Core i7-11800H.

Its 8-core, 16-thread design provides plenty of power for gaming and core-intensive applications. Although the base clock speed is only 2,3 GHz, it will boost to 4.6 GHz under heavy load.

Due to the onboard RTX 3060, the Helios runs all the latest games. It is an ideal GPU for 1080P gaming, as well as a great entry point into the world of ray tracing gaming. The keyboard is illuminated, which is always a plus.

Compared to the G17, the panel is a bit of a downgrade. With a refresh rate of 144Hz, you get a smooth gaming experience without tearing or ghosting. The G17 has a full HD IPS panel with a bright screen and accurate colors.

The 15.6″ screen size is a good fit for most users, giving you plenty of screen size without looking bulky.

The battery life is decent, lasting up to 6 hours.

6) HP Spectre x360

HP Spectre x360
View at Amazon

Featuring a full-size keyboard with a dedicated numeric keypad, the HP Spectre x360 is probably the most resourceful convertible on the market.

Starting with the Intel Core i7-9750H processor, you can expect maximum clock speeds of up to 4.6GHz. Moreover, the CPU makes way for Turbo Boost 2.0 and HyperThreading. In addition to the featured processor, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 GPU can handle nearly every mid-range game at 1080p settings. During games and Photoshop sessions, VRAM can be increased to 4GB for better texture handling.

When it comes to system memory, the 16GB RAM module is one of the best additions, followed by the substantial, 1TB solid-state storage module. A NVMe-compatible SSD loads the Windows 10 operating system at least 17 times faster than a standard HDD. The display consists of a 15.6-inch 4K panel with an overall resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels.

Micro-edge panels from HP increase screen real-estate. Additionally, the touch screen display is further protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

The Spectre x360 is a slim, gem cut projector that weighs 4.60 pounds from a structural standpoint. The ports arrangement, on the other hand, is pretty pronounced, with HP laying out USB Type-C, Thunderbolt 3, HDMI, and other ports. Connectivity-wise, you have access to Wi-Fi 6, which allows you to establish a fast and stable internet connection. Also relevant are the B&O speakers, the TrueVision webcam, and the serviceable microphones.

The 15-hour battery backup makes an impression, thanks to the huge battery module. Summarizing, the HP Spectre x360 is one of the better convertibles on the market, featuring a functional numeric keypad for added functionality.

  • Sizable battery module

7) Dell Inspiron 15.6”

Dell Inspiron 15.6”
View at Amazon

You have not made any trade-offs when you choose an affordable machine. Having a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 (378) with an 8th-Gen Intel Core i5 processor is a great place to work. However, it lacks some features that you could use. This device has an average battery life, poor screen displays, and a plain design.

Lifting the lid reveals the 15.6-inch, 1080p screen enclosed by an almost offensively thick bezel and a plastic deck with a faux brushed-metal appearance. On the power button is a fingerprint reader, and the keyboard is a black island-style keyboard.

Dell’s midrange 15.6-inch notebook is a bland, chunky block. It features USB 3.0 ports, Ethernet jack, SD card reader, HDMI output, disc drive, and headphone jack. Bright, clear images are displayed on the HD anti-glare display. To interact more intuitively with on-screen content, you can choose a touch display.

The Dell Inspiron comes with a numeric keypad that makes budgeting, accounting, and other calculations easy. The keyboard is backlit. A 4.1 x 3.1-inch touchpad is spacious and nice to use.

Dell Inspiron’s speakers and sound will never disappoint you because its sound is loud enough to fill a conference room. Its bass is very clear throughout its sound. When adjusting the music, you can choose the default setting.

It may be slower than other machines, but the Dell Inspiron comes with 1TB hard drives, 8GB of RAM, an Intel Core i5-8250U, and a 5400-rpm hard drive so that you can multitask with ease.

Geek bench 4 shows the Dell Inspiron to have a performance of 11,791 in comparison to the average laptop score of 8231, and it scored higher than the Aspire Core i5-8250U with a score of 9278. Based on experience, the Dell copied 4.8GB of files in 39 seconds.

The Dell Inspiron has a battery life of 5 hours and 8 minutes, which isn’t as long as other laptops with number pads, but isn’t a big deal as the time difference is very small. Laptop mag Battery conducted this test considering its use of Wi-Fi.

Dell Inspiron has a 720p webcam that produces reasonably bright images Furthermore, it keeps under the comfort threshold of 95 degrees Fahrenheit and remains cool under pressure.

8) HP Pavilion 16.1

HP Pavilion 16.1

Gaming on the maximum settings while spending the least amount of money is the idea behind this model.

Pavilion brand laptops offer a 1080P gaming GPU and the latest generation Intel processor, along with a sleek design. The 10th generation Intel i5-10300H is one of the most popular budget gaming CPUs on the market.

Its high boost frequency of 4.5 GHz provides plenty of single-threading performance. The GeForce GTX 1660TI can run all upcoming AAA titles at maximum settings. For 1080P gaming, 6 GB of GDDR6 memory is plenty, allowing you to game at its highest settings.

Colors and lines on the 16.1-inch panel are accurate. You won’t notice any tearing or ghosting when gaming with a 144Hz refresh rate.

It will be enough to get started with 8 GB of RAM, and you can easily upgrade later. The majority of users will be satisfied with 512 GB of high-speed NVMe.

Additionally, a 32 GB Optane module will be used for your OS, giving you blazingly fast loading times.

  • GTX 1660Ti
  • fast 16-inch panel
  • 512 GB of NVMe storage
  • Windows 10 Home

9) ASUS VivoBook K571

ASUS VivoBook K571
View at Amazon

Asus is one of the few OEMs to manufacture productive notebooks. Despite being a mid-range gaming notebook, the VivoBook K571 still adheres to diverse professional requirements with its innovative keyboard, as well as other useful features.

Featuring an Intel Core i7-10750H CPU, the VivoBook K571 is capable of handling photo editing, live streaming, stock trading, bookkeeping, engineering, and business-related tasks. One of the most important features of the processor is its excellent single-core turbo clock speed of up to 4.6GHz, which is good enough to handle mathematical calculations, Excel worksheet management, and other single-threaded tasks accurately.

With 4GB of dedicated video RAM, the GTX 1650 graphics card provides adequate processing support. Although it is an ally of the CPU, the existing GPU is still able to play mid-range AAA titles with excellent performance. The lags were not noticeable when we played resource-intensive games, such as PUBG, Fortnite, Civ 6, and SIMS 4.

It is highly recommended to install the demanding programs and Windows 10 Home edition operating system on the 256GB NVMe-compatible solid-state drive for faster boot-ups, while the 1TB SATA hard drive should only be used for future expansion of the storage capacity for more demanding requirements. It is expected that the 15.6-inch 1080p panel will be included. A 120Hz refresh rate further sweetens the deal for gamers with Asus.

On the other hand, creatives can take advantage of slimmer bezels, 178-degree wide-angle viewing, and a higher screen-to-chassis ratio of about 80 percent. Despite this, you also get access to a Chiclet-style keyboard that’s actively cooled.

The Asus VivoBook K571 is also equipped with an amplified acoustic setup, a webcam for video conferences, and a functional thermal design with dual fans and strategically positioned rear vents. While this laptop is exciting, it still weighs a respectable 4.70 pounds. If you’re worried about connectivity, the VivoBook K571 comes equipped with Type-A, Type-C, HDMI, USB 2.0, and Wi-Fi 5.

The battery backup from Asus is strictly middling in terms of autonomy. Asus’ VivoBook K571 is a good option to invest in if ergonomic typing environment is one of your priorities along with a budget-based processing conglomerate.

  • Powerful processor
  • Mid-range GPU
  • Well-spaced keyboard with IceCool technology
  • Lacks Thunderbolt 3
  • Lacks Wi-Fi 6 support

10) Acer Aspire 5, 15.6

Acer Aspire 5 Slim Laptop, 15.6 Inches
View at Amazon

When you carry the Acer Aspire 5 around the office or at home, you feel confident because the display is tightly built, as is normal with affordable laptops. I can assure you that the hinge is intact and the display is excellent. It only has a light lid, which means you can’t place anything heavy on it.

Our recommendations for the best laptop with numeric keypad were based on its premium design, impressive specs, and affordable price.

The keyboard is a standard island version, including a 10-key numeric keypad. All keys are in the usual locations and are of average size. Despite the lack of illumination, the white-on-black lettering makes it visible so this may not be an issue.

In our opinion, the touchpad is better than you’d think, and it ranks right up there with some of the best Windows touchpads we’ve used, such as the much more expensive Dell XPS 15.

In spite of its modest price, the Aspire 5 packs a touchpad that’s decently sized, responsive, and supports Microsoft’s Precision Touchpad protocol. The gestures are smooth, and all the gestures recognized by Windows 10 work here.

The Acer Aspire 5’s 16GB comes with an optional memory module that aims to make the 1TB hard drive in this budget laptop feel almost as fast as pricier models’ SSDs.

Earlier this year, Acer updated the Aspire 5 with Intel’s 8th-generation Core i5-8250U quad-core processor that has performed well and provided some noticeable efficiency. Even at a price point of $500, Acer’s 4GB of DDR4 RAM is a bit disappointing.

When it comes to battery capacity, the Acer Aspire 5 doesn’t make use of all that chassis space. As there are only 48 watt-hours inside, and with its large Full HD display and relatively fast yet efficient CPU, we didn’t have high expectations going into our battery benchmarks.

  • Solid quad-core performance
  • Affordable
  • Intel Optane speeds up the large-capacity hard drive
  • The keypad isn’t backlit but the keys are visible
  • Slow hard drive if loaded with so many files

11) Acer Nitro 5

Acer Nitro 5
View at Amazon

Acer’s Nitro 5 is another gaming laptop with a similar design to its Helios model, but at a significantly lower price. With a 15.6-inch screen and a powerful GPU, it can compete with higher-end models.

You should consider the Nitro 5 if you are a gamer on a budget. They chose the 9th generation Intel Core i5-9300H as the CPU, which has a boost speed of 4.1 GHz!

It will run almost every latest game effortlessly in 1080P, making it the perfect gaming GPU. GDDR5 memory is limited to 4 GB, which is enough for 1080P gaming, but it may struggle with upcoming games.

We are glad to see 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of NVMe memory at this price. There is a limited amount of storage, but the system has a hard drive bay and a M.2 slot, so you can easily upgrade your storage.

The keyboard has RGB backlighting and a numeric keypad. Its battery can last for up to 8 hours.

  • Fast quad-core chip
  • GTX 1650
  • NVMe memory
  • Older WiFi module

12) Dell G5 15

Dell G5 15
View at Amazon

The Dell G5 15 is one of the more rugged laptops on our list, due to its balanced specs sheet and durable design. Despite the heft on display, this laptop from Dell has one of the best keyboards in the retail arena, with a dedicated numeric keyboard for seamless professional use.

With an insanly powerful i7 processor, the Dell G5 15 boasts a massive amount of processing power. The Intel Core i7-9750H CPU is probably the best CPU for single and multi-threaded applications, but it is the turbo clock speed of up to 4.6GHz that makes the difference. The processor is also handy enough for gaming logic and NPC processing.

The GeForce GTX 1650 and 4GB VRAM are capable of handling graphically-intensive tasks like video editing and playing games like Overwatch, Minecraft, League of Legends, and more. The processor is supported by 16GB of RAM, which is a useful multitasking solution and handles temporary files and disk caches at a decent, 2666MHz speed. Dell offers a 256GB solid-state drive and a 1TB hard disk drive, precisely to enhance professional options.

Dell’s Windows 10 Home operating system comes with a standard 15.6-inch screen. Although the display doesn’t have any trivial, battery-draining features, the overall resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels ensures decent levels of color clarity and sharper visual angles. In addition to that, Dell’s laptops also have anti-glare properties, so you can work for hours on end.

Further enhancing the visual experience is the LED-backlit panel and narrow bezels. Despite this, the backlit keyboard is one of the most resourceful features on board, only surpassed by a high-fidelity acoustic setup, a smoother touchpad, and outstanding thermal performance. The dual-fan cooling design makes it one of the heaviest laptops on the list, weighing 5.95 pounds.

Dell’s G5 15 is a heavy laptop to carry around, but it’s one of the best desk-bound options if you are looking for a laptop with productivity-intensive specs.

  • Innovative cooling technology
  • Optimal typing experiences with WASD support
  • Nahimic speakers
  • Chunkier than usual

Considering you won’t be doing VR gaming, there are a lot of different ports available to you. If that feature is a must-have, you’ll need a system with a GTX 1060 GPU and above.

There is 8GB RAM and maximum 32GB of storage, as well as a Core i5-8300H chip, which is all you need. With its 6 core CPU, it can handle any task, including heavy tasks such as video editing.

With GeForce GTX 10-Series GPUs, you get up to three times the performance of previous-generation GPUs. Their ultra-fast FinFETs, high-bandwidth memory technologies, and DirectX 12 support makes them the fastest, smoothest gaming notebooks on the market.

There is an average battery life of 3 hours and 52 minutes, which is good as seen in many gaming machines.

Expand your vision to create the ultimate gaming experience. MSI’s innovative Matrix Display supports up to two external displays simultaneously via its HDMI port and Mini DisplayPort 1.2 port. Multitasking is possible even during competitive gaming. The MSI Matrix Display technology creates an ideal environment for extreme gaming and enjoyable multimedia entertainment.

MSI’s exclusive “SHIFT” technology pushes the system to the extremes while minimizing noise and temperature. By switching between different profiles you can either push your system to the extreme or get longer battery life.

Earth’s most original element is heat. It’s a simple fact of physics that more energy generates more heat. This makes cooling a complicated process. By allocating dedicated heat pipes to GPU and CPU, MSI’s Cooler Boost 4 technology creates dual thermal modules internally. When the fan boost button is pressed, the system’s heat pipes and dual fans work to push heat out of the system, making it the most efficient cooling design available.

Sound detail is enhanced by 30% with MSI Audio Boost. In conjunction with the optimized headset AMP design, the golden audio jack allows for stable sound transmission (reduced obstruction). Noise and distortion characteristics that are low, allowing headphones to reproduce each sound with greater accuracy.

As our favorite budget pick, IdeaPad Gaming 3 offers a dedicated GPU, a high-thread CPU, a high-refresh rate display, and fast NVMe storage at an incredibly low price.

While it is priced similarly to the HP 17, it offers some decent gaming capabilities. The Ryzen 5 5600H onboard processor provides enough power for demanding applications and games.

On a budget, this 6-core, 12-thread CPU provides good performance. With a boost speed of 4.2 GHz, it has some impressive single-threading capabilities. All the latest games will run on the GTX 1650, but you’ll need to lower the details a bit when playing the latest titles.

This laptop includes 8GB of RAM, but Lenovo was kind enough to include high-speed 3200 MHz modules, which improves gaming performance. It includes 256GB of NVMe storage.

Using a low TDP processor and GPU, this model has a long battery life of up to 8 hours.

  • Great price/performance ratio,
  • Big 17-inch screen,
  • 12-thread CPU, GTX 1650
  • Basic 2W speakers

15) LG Gram 15

LG Gram 15
View at Amazon

LG Gram 15 might be a better choice if you are looking for a battery-powered laptop with a numeric keypad. There are a few nifty inclusions in the processing conglomerate, which can be categorized as functional professional resources.

LG continues to offer the low-power Intel Core i5-10210U processor with 6MB cache memory, HyperThreading capabilities, and Turbo Clock technology. Additionally, when it comes to intricate processing tasks, the fastest processor speed of up to 4.2GHz allows you to be more productive and efficient without experiencing any stutters. The CPU also has integrated UHD graphics support.

However, it is the 8GB DDR4 RAM that helps you complete multitasking tasks faster. As a storage monger, you can also rely on the 512GB solid-state drive, thanks to its NVMe-support and its capacity to quickly load the Windows 10 Home OS. LG takes the visual experience to whole new level courtesy of the brilliant, 15.6-inch IPS panel and a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Along with the primary specs, LG also offers a few innovative productivity features, such as a full-size backlit keyboard, fingerprint reader, and 3D acoustic setup bolstered by the DTS:X Ultra enhancement. Furthermore, the LG Gram 15 is a stylish business laptop thanks to its responsive webcam and a decent collection of ports, such as Type-C, DP 1.2, USB 3.0, and more.

LG’s 21-hour battery backup promise attracts the most positive feedback. Even though this is a wishful claim, our experts were able to achieve close to 17 hours of battery life on standard usage, thus qualifying the same as one of the best professional laptops in the retail space, especially considering that the chassis is the lightest possible at 2.4 pounds.

Nevertheless, if you are looking for a larger, workstation-like display, the LG Gram 17-inch model is also worth considering. Besides the large screen, this variant comes with a graphics-optimized i7 processor, 1TB NVMe storage, 16GB RAM, and a Thunderbolt 3 port. The screen resolution is also increased to 2560 x 1600 pixels, but the WQXGA panel cuts the battery life by at least four hours.

  • Brilliant screen
  • Excellent keyboard
  • Durable chassis
  • Lacks enough gaming firepower
  • Middling audio effects

16) Acer Swift 3

You’d be forgiven for thinking Acer would follow the same path with the Swift 3. If the Acer Swift 7 is Acer’s flagship, the Swift 3 is its cheaper, more accessible version.

However, when you dig deeper, the Acer Swift 3 will blow your mind with powerful components that feel right at home in its all-aluminum chassis.

Acer Swift 3 is a good option if you are looking for an affordable laptop that will get you through your daily tasks without breaking a sweat.

The 15-inch Full HD display, 3.53 pounds of heft and 0.71-inch frame won’t be the most powerful or the most beautiful hardware, but it does make full use of its 15-inch Full HD display.

It has a 15.6-inch screen and, more importantly, an AMD Ryzen processor paired with AMD Radeon RX 540 graphics rather than the usual Intel chips. A sub-£800 aluminium laptop with a large screen is the Swift 3 SF315’s strong suit. Its battery life and color depth, however, could be improved.

One of the smartest decisions Acer made when designing the Acer Swift 3 was to include legacy ports – notably two USB 3.0 ports and an SD card slot.

The left side of the chassis still has a single USB 3.1 Type-C port, so laptop futurists need not worry. The keyboard also feels much better than Apple’s 12-inch clamshell and is complemented by nifty backlighting, of which there are four levels including “off”.

Located below the directional keys is a tiny fingerprint reader, which is meant to be used in conjunction with Microsoft’s Hello login feature. Even though it didn’t work perfectly on the first try, it’s still a great addition once you get used to how the slim design doesn’t quite fit your finger entirely.

Acer Swift 3 costs $499 in the US, £699 in the UK, and AU$999 in Australia. In the entry-level US model, you get a 7th generation Intel Core i3 processor (CPU), 4GB of memory (RAM), and a 128GB SSD. The UK model has 8GB of RAM.

Unlike many laptops on the market today, you can configure the Acer Swift 3 at checkout, and each version has its own specifications and pricing. In addition, the Acer Swift 3 has been updated with 8th generation Intel Kaby Lake Refresh processors.

If you want the most powerful configuration of the Acer Swift 3, it will cost you $849 in the US, but £749 and AU$1,399 in the UK and Australia, respectively. The reason is largely due to the fact that the most powerful Acer Swift 3 in the US uses an Intel Core i7 processor as opposed to the UK’s Core i5. In the UK, there is only a 256GB SSD, not the 512GB in the US.

Swift 3 has the typical connection array of a laptop looking to please those with little patience for adapters. Two USB 3.0 ports are on the left, a USB 2.0 port on the right, and only one USB-C port. Although this is the connection that will eventually replace USB in laptops, considering how old some of the peripherals are, it is unlikely that we will stop using old USBs. Additionally, the Swift 3 has a full-size SD card slot, HDMI, and a Kensington security slot.

Once you get used to it, the keyboard is pretty much identical to the one on the previous generation, and that’s mostly fine, since it’s a fast and reasonably reliable keyboard.

At the same time, the keys are soft and actuate with little effort, and that’s going to feel strange at first, because the feedback does not always suggest that your hit has been registered.

You’ll probably get along well with this keyboard if you’re used to this kind of short-stroke keyboard. I find it to be one of the fastest and most comfortable types, but its peculiar feedback causes me to miss a lot of strokes.

The clickpad is located beneath the Space key. It has a plastic Elan surface (some Acer versions also use Synaptics surfaces) and Precision drivers. Even the physical clicks are fairly quiet and soft, so there isn’t much to complain about here.

  • Plenty of ports
  • Slim, compact and fairly light
  • Fairly good battery life
  • Killer keyboard and trackpad
  • Get hot when you overload it
  • Dim IPS panel
  • Average speakers

17) DELL VOSTRO 5568 15.6”

DELL VOSTRO 5568 15.6”
View at Amazon

Dell’s Vostro line is geared toward business customers. A 15-inch system covers all the essentials, focusing on productivity. There are two series available:

Models in the 3000-series start at 239 Euros (*$255, excl. VAT) and utilize simple cases with optical drives.

The 5000-series has a nicer chassis and has more similarities with Ultrabooks (no optical drive).

You should remember that the Vostro series is designed with professional workplace requirements in mind, which is why I listed it as your third best laptop with a numeric keypad.

A Dell Vostro 15 5568 with a Core i5 processor, 8 GB DDR4-RAM, 256 GB SSD, and a matte FHD TN display is our test model. The Dell online store lists this preconfigured model for 619 Euros (*$660, excl. VAT). Competitors of the Vostro 15 include the HP ProBook 450 G4, the Acer TravelMate P259, and the Lenovo ThinkPad E570, which is also being reviewed.

The Dell Vostro 15 has all the essential ports, but doesn’t stand out. There are four USB ports, three of which support the fast 3.0 standard. Only one USB 2.0 port is available, but that is not a problem because both sides have fast connectors. A USB Type-C port is not available. With USB 2.0 ports, the speed is just mediocre at around 200 MB/s; our external Samsung SSD T3 would support higher speeds (>400 MB/s).

Either HDMI (4K @30 Hz) or the slightly outdated VGA port are available for video output. Additionally, there is an SD-card reader and a foldout Gigabit Ethernet jack. Dell does not have a SmartCard reader or docking port, so you must use USB docking stations.

The internal SD-card reader is only connected via USB 2.0 as we can only measure low transfer rates with our reference card from Toshiba (Exceria Pro 64 GB UHS-II, up to 260 MB/s).

According to AS SSD, the maximum sequential transfer speed is just 25 MB/s, and a folder containing JPEG files (*5 MB each) is also transferred at 25 MB/s. Not only is permanent storage expansion impossible due to the low performance, but the memory card also protrudes from the chassis.

Dell equipped the Vostro 15 5568 with an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 WLAN adapter that wasn’t very fast in the predecessor model. But it reaches new lows in our current test device. Data transfer rates are obsolete.

Despite Intel’s own website stating that the WLAN adapter supports 802.11ac, our test system only found standards a, b, and g in the device manager. We were unable to determine the reason for this constraint. The cabled network connection is provided by an RJ45 port.

Only the Vostro 15 meets the minimum security requirements. In our test model, only a Kensington Lock and a Trusted Platform Module 2.0 (TPM) are included. There is a fingerprint scanner, but there is no SmartCard reader. Windows Hello cannot be used to unlock the system.

The Vostro 15’s BIOS is very comprehensive as is typically the case for business laptops with 10 keys. The user interface is somewhat outdated, but the use of a touchpad is very easy and comfortable. As well as different passwords and settings for TPM 2.0, you can also configure or deactivate nearly every component or port.

It is difficult to maintain the Vostro 15. As there is no maintenance hatch at the bottom, you will have to remove the entire bottom part of the base unit to access the components. After removing 11 screws, you must pry open the chassis. There is a corresponding tool, but it is still quite fiddly. However, Dell does not use fragile plastic clips.

After removing the bottom, you can access all the important components. There are two RAM slots (one free), a M.2-SSD (2280), a WLAN module, a battery, and a CMOS battery. Cleaning the fan is also possible. Next to the battery is a free slot for 2.5-inch drives and the necessary connectors – exemplary.

Dell Vostro 15’s input devices are its only weakness. It has a black chiclet keyboard with a dedicated numeric keypad. The pressure point is still fairly well defined and the input is sufficient for everyday tasks.

Dell offers two different 15.6-inch displays for the Vostro 15. The less expensive SKU comes with an HD TN panel (1366×768), while our test model has a Full HD panel (also based on TN technology).

A resolution of 1920*1080 pixels results in 141 pixels per inch. WQHD or 4K displays provide sharper images, but considering the low retail price, FHD screens are a good choice. There are also no scaling issues. In addition, we did not find any PWM flickering or backlight bleeding.

Core i5-7200U is based on Intel’s Kaby Lake architecture and is a direct successor to the very popular Core i5-6200U (Skylake), which runs at 2.3-2.8 GHz.

As a result of the 14nm process, the new Kaby Lake chip can now run at 2.5-3.1 GHz (2 cores are also 3.1 GHz). Thanks to Hyperthreading, a dual-core processor can run four threads simultaneously. It still consumes 15 watts.

Dell Vostro 15’s graphical output is handled by an integrated Intel HD Graphics 620. This is the GT2 model of the Kaby Lake GPU with 24 shaders. With the Core i5, the clock speed is up to 1000 MHz. GPUs are not equipped with dedicated memory, so they use system RAM, which can only be configured in a single-channel mode. With the addition of a secondary RAM module, the performance could be improved (*15-30%).

  • Easy expandability
  • High-end graphics
  • Reliable security
  • Average battery life
  • Warms up when idle
  • low sounds from speakers

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the numeric keypad still a functional laptop resource?

Programmers, coders, and accountants avoid using the cluster of numeric keys atop the QWERTY keypad because of accessibility issues. Numeric keypads make the key clusters more visible so they can use them more easily when needed. quential arrangement makes the keypad easier to use and even allows you to lock the same when not in use.

What is the second most elusive keyboard trait after the numeric keypad?

In addition to the numeric keypad being the most desirable characteristic, backlighting should also be considered, especially for full-sized machines. Professionals often work in low-light conditions, so keyboard illumination enables them to proceed without compromising productivity.

What is the best keyboard for gamers like?

Whether you are a professional gamer or a casual gamer, you should consider features like anti-ghosting support, n-key rollover, a numeric keypad, and WASD support. You should also consider keyboards with four-zone or per-key backlight enhancements if you are equally interested in visual delights.

What are the most decisive keyboard features for accountants and programmers?

Accessibility, quality of presses, keypress durability, and even key travel of a Chiclet-style module are the most important features for accountants and programmers. Additionally, as these people prefer to type, laptop elevation, as seen in most Asus notebooks, is also an important characteristic to consider.

What are the major differences between a keyboard-based numeric keypad and the one paired with a touchpad?

The use of a keyboard with a numerical keypad is more natural. On the other hand, certain smaller laptops, such as the Asus ZenBook 13, integrate a touch-sensitive keypad with the trackpad, which saves a lot of space, looks great, but can be a bit confusing when it comes to usage. The use of any part of a keyboard needs to be instinctive, and is best attributed to physical, full-size inclusions.

If you are looking to purchase a laptop, you should consider several factors depending on what you plan to use it for.

If you want a laptop for gaming, for example, you should choose one with a lot of RAM, fast processor, great graphics card, and ample storage space that will work well with strong gaming graphics.

If you need a laptop that can support easy and quick number input, you should opt for one with a separate numeric keypad that is embedded in the keyboard. These are the laptops we listed above.

In the guide above, you will find thirteen recent best laptops that include a numeric keypad. Each laptop is reviewed in detail. Now, you can easily pick the one that suits your needs and budget.
